Jonas Werling retells Kleist’s 1808 novella and draws parallels to the present: the distrust in the state, in the basic democratic order, the feeling of actually being screwed by “those up there,” the vague doubt about the truth of the status quo.

Radicalization is not a switch that is flipped, but a gradual process. Kleists Rezeptur, die einen redlichen Bürger in einen Extremisten verwandelt, ist zeitlos gültig.
