ICH KANN’S NICHT LASSEN (I JUST CAN’T STOP)
Janne Gregor (Germany)
‘Who does the stage belong to?’, four krump dancers ask as they take the audience with them into the limelight. Krump is a dance style developed in Los Angeles by people with African roots that is directed against social inequality and discrimination. For many dancers, krump continues to be a refuge and a surrogate family. By dancing, they can present themselves and support each other. Janne Gregor transports this self-empowering attitude into the theatre space, disrupting accustomed hierarchies and creating a vivid live performance in a close exchange with the audience. Dance becomes a means of communication, making each show a unique experience that tells you while you just can’t stop dancing.
